“Physics Major to Planetarian” topic of Oct. 28 physics seminar

A physics seminar on “Physics Major to Planetarian-A Personal Journey” will be held Friday, October 28 from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. in Hagen Hall 325. The speaker is Dave Weinrich from MSUM Department of Physics and Astronomy.

About the talk:

Growing up in southeastern Minnesota at the beginning of the Space Age, I developed an early interest in amateur astronomy. However, when I first went to Luther College, I had decided to become a biology researcher. Working in the Luther College Planetarium changed my goal and by the time I graduated, I had a degree in physics with a science teaching license. In my talk I will cover my personal journey from astronomy enthusiast to my work today operating the MSUM Planetarium and doing international astronomy outreach. During that journey, I have been an Iowa science teacher, a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, taken a sabbatical in Sri Lanka, helped build the first public planetarium in West Africa and presently serve as the president of the International Planetarium Society. – Dave Weinrich
