Eddie Gomez Trio performs Sept. 9

Legendary bassist Eddie Gomez has been on the cutting edge of music for over four decades. The Latin GRAMMY® award-winner’s impressive resumé includes performances with jazz giants such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan and Benny Goodman. Eddie’s unique sound and style can be heard on hundreds of recordings spanning the worlds of jazz, classical, Latin jazz, rhythm & blues, popular and contemporary music.

A sought-after educator, Eddie is artistic director at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico where he has been professor and artist-in-residence since 2005. He has been artist-in-residence and associate professor of jazz double bass at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and recently was resident artist at Stanford University, North Texas State University, Georgia State University, Jacksonville University, and the prestigious Berklee College of Music. In Europe, he has been artist in residence at the Conservatory of Music in Siena, Italy and at the Conservatorio Liceu in Barcelona, Spain. He gives master classes at many of the major universities and conservatories throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and South America.

Rodrigo Villaneuva, drummer, percussionist, arranger, and composer was born in Mexico City, Mexico and has played with Terry Hankins, Lee Tomboulian, Charles McPherson, Eddie Gomez, Eddie Henderson, Clark Terry, Wycliffe Gordon, Jimmy Owens, Derrick Logozzo, Larry Randall, Carlos Guedes, Fareed Haque, Liam Teague, Hiro Morozumi, Alejandro Fernández, Sandra Kaye, and Margo Reymundo. Mr. Villanueva is currently associate professor of Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University, where he teaches Jazz Drum Set, Jazz Arranging, and the NIU Jazz Lab Band. He performs regularly in the U.S. and Mexico with The Eddie Gomez Trio, The Janguen Bae Jazz Trio, The Hiro Morozumi Jazz Trio.

Stefan Karlsson currently teaches at North Texas State University. Stefan also stays active playing at festivals, clubs and conferences worldwide as leader and sideman. His discography includes 61 recordings with eight CD’s as leader. In addition to performing and recording with the Eddie Gomez group, he has also had the opportunity to share the stage and recorded with such jazz greats as: Jesse Davis, Herb Ellis, Jim Ferguson, Carl Fontana, Tim Hagans, Steve Houghton, Clay Jenkins, Marc Johnson, Rich Matteson, Red Mitchell, Dick Oatts, Rich Perry, Chris Potter, Rufus Reid, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Ed Soph, Marvin Stamm, Harvie S, Mark Walker, Tom Warrington, Jim White, Jiggs Wigham, Eliot Zigmund, and others.
