Parking Open Forum April 6

A parking open forum will be Tuesday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in CMU 207. The following are recommendations for changes to the 2010-2011 Parking Rules/Regulations: raise Permits 10% for lot maintenance and reconstruction; change “B” lot to general housing; Change “I” and “K” lots to free visitor parking; raise ticket prices to be comparable to other MNSCU schools. Ignite and Unite for the Dragon Fire Walk April 17

Brush off your winter blues and tap into spring fever during the April 17th Dragon Fire Walk. Thanks to the 33 teams already signed up to help raise vital scholarship dollars for Dragon Athletics. Have you been drafted? If not, you still have time to join a team or start your own team. Consider joining Edna’s Hurricanes! We’d welcome some more members. The walk alone will make you feel good, plus knowing you are contributing to the success of our prized resource—students! And if that isn’t enough, some fabulous prizes can be won by participants. Do you like to travel or eat? Your participation provides a chance to win airline tickets, jewelry or restaurant gift certificates. To date, $75,000 has been raised toward our $150,000 goal. Wellness Center Easter break hours

The Wellness Center will have the following Easter break hours: Friday, April 2nd – 8:00am – 2:00pm; Saturday, April 3rd – Closed;
Sunday, April 4th – Closed; Monday, April 5th – Noon-Midnight. Group exercise and cycling classes will be offered during our scheduled open times.

Michael Parks chosen Safety Director of the Year

MSUM security director Michael Parks was named Safety Director of the Year at a ceremony Tuesday evening in Long Beach, Calif. The top educational campus award is presented annually at the Campus Safety Conference for public safety and security administrators in hospitals, K-12 schools and universities. Parks was nominated for his leadership during the Flood of 2009. He served as the incident commander for the campus and he played a key role in the flood fight in the community. Under Parks’ leadership, MSUM was mobilized as a volunteer center and provided emergency call center facilities and staffing during the historic flood.

Physics grad to speak on geothermal and other renewable energy resources

Heather Sanden, a 2008 MSUM physics graduate, will speak about the complex relationship between energy use and its impact on the environment in a talk titled “Energy and Physics around the World: Geothermal and other renewable energy resources from Iceland to Moorhead” Tuesday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Science Lab Building 118.
