Student organization award winners announced
The following awards were presented at the Annual Student Organization Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to the award winners and to everyone who was nominated!
STUDENT ORGANIZATION SCHOOL SPIRIT & CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT
Through inventive programs and services, organizations can unify the student body. This award recognizes the student organization that reached out with school spirit and got the campus involved, providing a successful and meaningful program or service benefiting both the organization and MSUM. The award went to Nemzek Noize. Also nominated were Student Senate and Umoja Student Association.
STUDENT ORGANIZATION COMMUNITY & CAMPUS SERVICE
This award offers organizations reaching out to the greater communities of Fargo/Moorhead, as well as the MSUM community, the opportunity to be recognized for their commitments. MSUM organizations have offered support to our community and campus. Undertaking a commitment to coordinate and implement such programs and services should not go unrecognized! The award went to Panhellenic Council. Students Today Leaders Forever was also nominated.
STUDENT ORGANIZATION ADVISOR OF THE YEAR
The role of the organization advisor can be challenging and rewarding for those who undertake such a responsibility. They bring knowledge and expertise to help organizations operate smoothly. Such advisors who have answered the challenge and met it successfully are valuable assets to their organizations and should be recognized. The award went to Janet Hohenstein. Chang Seong Hong, Becky Boyle Jones, and Warren Weise were also nominated.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
Each organization has members who assume leadership roles either by appointment, election, or by volunteering. A leader should be many things to an organization; motivated, determined, flexible, and knowledgeable. They must strive to better the organization through their effective fulfillment of the goals designated by the organization. The award went to Maria Camargo. Jessica Alexander, Subha Gyawali, Bijay Lama, Angie Ley, Kirsten Miller, Heather Sorensen, Ryu Takagi, and Melissa Tutt were also nominated.
STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR
This award reflects the commitment of an organization to not only provide services to MSUM and the surrounding communities, but places emphasis on organizations which promote projects leading to the betterment of the organization and its members. The award went to Student Senate. Delta Zeta, International Student Organization, Japan Club, Nepali Students Association, Students Today Leaders Forever, and Umoja Student Association were also nominated.
WHO’S WHO AMONG STUDENTS IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES & COLLEGES
For more than seven decades, the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges has honored outstanding campus leaders annually for their scholastic and community achievements.
