Poet reads at MSUM Thursday as part of McGrath Visiting Writers Series
Kristin Naca, author of Bird Eating Bird, (Harper Perennial, 2009), will read from her work at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15 as a feature of MSUM’s Tom McGrath Visiting Writers Series. She’ll also give a talk on the writer’s craft at 4 p.m. that day. Both events will be held in King Hall Auditorium room 110.
Naca’s first collection of poems, Bird Eating Bird, was the winner of the 2008 prestigious National Poetry Series mtvU prize as chosen by Pulitzer Prize winner Yusef Komunyakaa. A longtime member of Sandra Cisneros’ Macondo Workshop in San Antonio, Texas, Naca is a CFD Fellow at Macalester College in St. Paul, where she teaches Asian American and Latino poetry and creative writing. She holds a B.A. from the University of Washington, an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. in English from the.University of Nebraska. Playful and serious all at once, her poetry explores the richness of her cultural and linguistic heritage. She lives in Minneapolis.
