A national survey says South Dakota is tops in the nation among college students graduating in debt, but 17th overall for the amount of that debt. In its survey “Student Debt and the Class of 2008,” the Berkley, Calif.-based Project on Student Debt, reports that national student debt rose an average of 6 percent a year between 2004 and 2008, from $18,600 in 2004 to $23,200 in 2008. The MSUM Film Studies Department will hold the 2009 Juried Film Exhibition on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in Weld Hall Glasrud Auditorium.The exhibition will showcase the best student work from the fall semester, as chosen by a panel of judges. The jury will be choosing work from the semester’s production classes, which include Film 172: Video Production, Film 284: Beginning Filmmaking, Film 384: Techniques of Directing, Film 484: Intermediate Filmmaking, and Film 485: Advanced Filmmaking. On Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. Zandbroz Variety in Fargo will host Thom Tammaro, English Department and MFA program, to read from his new collection of poems, 31 Mornings in December, a series of Zen-like meditations written each day during the month of December. Joining Tammaro will be guitarist and vocalist Terry Ruud and vocalist Crystal Jensen for an afternoon of acoustical music and songs about the wintry month of December. Click headline to read more.
Dr. Kenyon Williams, Associate Professor of Percussion, will be participating in two outstanding holiday events as a featured performer and composer this Christmas season. As Principle Percussionist with the Fargo Moorhead Symphony, he will be performing as a featured xylophone soloist for the “Holiday Pops” Christmas Concert at the Fargo Theatre on Thurs. Dec. 17th and Sat. Dec. 19th. He will also be performing with the Bethel Evangelical Free Church’s production of “Christmas in the Red,” an all-original musical written by MSUM adjunct Communications faculty member Ginger Williams and featuring MSUM vocal performance major Ian Laluhm and theatre arts major James Stinsman as lead performers on Thursday Dec. 10th through Saturday Dec. 12th at Bethel Church.
