Twin City jazz vocalist Lucia Newell and celebrated recording engineer Steve Wiese will be featured guests at MSUM Music Industry Summit
The third annual MSUM Music Industry Summit is set for November 11-12 at Gaede Theatre in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts on the MSUM campus. The event begins at 7:30 pm on November 11 when Lucia Newell will join jazz faculty Tom Strait, Nick Fryer, Allen Carter, Simon Rowe and Bill Law in concert. An outstanding Tri-College jazz combo will open the show. This concert event will also mark the official launch of MSUM’s student record label “Undeclared Records”. Admission to the show is adults $5/students free.
Newell and Wiese will each present workshops on Thursday, November 12 at 10 am in the Center for the Arts and will come together for a panel discussion with MSUM Professors Jackson and Rowe at 1:30 pm on the Gaede Stage. The workshop and panel events are free and open to the public.
The voice of Lucia Newell has been heard in nightclubs around the world, from Los Angeles to Mexico City to Rio de Janeiro, as well as locally at Orchestra Hall, the Fine Line, the Times, and the Dakota. She can be heard singing background vocals on recordings for Windham Hill, CBS, Warner Bros., MCA, Atlantic, A&M and Virgin Records, and has recorded with Ben Sidran, Thelma Houston, Paula Abdul, Patty Austin, Paul Peterson and many others in London, New York, Los Angeles, Rio, and at home in Minneapolis.
Steve Wiese has been producing, engineering and mastering records and CDs for over 30 years at his studio, Creation Audio, in Minneapolis, and throughout the world. His credits include Platinum, Gold and other award-winning recordings of many national, regional, local, and numerous international artists. Steve has worked in virtually all genres of music from pop to jazz to various ethnic forms. Steve also continues to be in demand as a live concert engineer and front of house mixer.
