MSUM to canvas Moorhead during September to support United Way Day of Caring

The United Way Day of Caring is a community-wide event, where United Way of Cass-Clay mobilizes volunteer teams of 3-6 people to assist people in need with a household project.

This is where MSUM comes in. During the month of September, MSUM will help United Way to canvas local Moorhead neighborhoods to spread the word about the Day of Caring Event and to help people in need register for help. MSUM is helping our local community while supporting the goal of United Way to ensure as many people as possible know about the event.

What’s Happening in Admissions

Each week the Office of Admissions will be sharing a few things happening on campus and in our recruiting territories. We hope to provide you with a brief look into what’s happening in Admissions.

  • We want to extend a huge congratulations to Jamie Wepking who was chosen to be part of the United Way of Cass Clay’s 35 under 35 women’s leadership program. The purpose of the United Way 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program is to mobilize the caring power of women, energize and inspire leaders to make a difference, and to deepen leadership opportunities for local young women. The program is designed to build networks and strengthen connections to improve the quality of life in the Cass-Clay community.
  • Our admissions representatives will be attending various local high school sporting events for ‘ice cream socials’ over the next couple weeks. The ambassadors hand out free ice cream courtesy of MSUM to high school students attending the games.

MSUM Alumnae, Employee Named to United Way’s 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program

The United Way of Cass-Clay announced its 2017 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program participants, which includes seven MSUM alumnae and one employee.

MSUM alumnae include:

  • Beth Althoff, Doosan-Bobcat
  • Renee Charon, Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota
  • Jesika Jorgenson, Discovery Benefits
  • Yulia Murzaeva, Widmer Roel
  • Danna Nelson, Fargo Park District
  • Leah Trontvet, YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties
  • Jamie Wepking, Minnesota State University Moorhead

Wepking also works at MSUM as the Assistant Director of Admissions Campus Preview Program and Call Center.

MSUM Supports United Way of Cass-Clay School Supply Drive

Minnesota State University Moorhead is proud to join many Fargo-Moorhead organizations in the support of the 18th Annual School Supply Drive, sponsored by the United Way of Cass-Clay.

The School Supply Drive is an annual project that creates lasting change in the community by providing new a new backpack and a basic set of school supplies to children in Cass and Clay counties.  Last year, 5,260 local students grades K-12 were equipped with a backpacks and set of school supplies. More than 500 volunteers donated a tremendous amount of supplies and time to help students in the community be confident and prepared for school.

The Essentials of Nonprofit Administration

The United Way of Cass-Clay and the Otto Bremer Foundation, in partnership with Minnesota State University Moorhead, have been offering, “The Essentials of Nonprofit Administration,” a comprehensive training program designed to address issues facing nonprofits, for over 10 years. Past presenters have included academic and nonprofit professionals recognized as experts in their fields. They are always updating their program to provide training most relevant to today’s nonprofits. Lunch is included in the cost of the program. 15th Annual Community School Supply Drive & Distribution

MSU Moorhead has joined with other Fargo-Moorhead organizations to help support the 15th Annual Community School Supply Drive & Distribution, sponsored by the United Way of Cass-Clay (UWCC).

The MSUM school supply drive will run from Monday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 31 at 4 p.m., with distribution to children beginning on Saturday, August 10.

In 2012, 83% of all students who received backpacks and school supplies, self-reported that they were on free/reduced lunches. Read the rest of this entry →

MSPAM collecting school supplies for the United Way of Cass Clay

MSPAM will be collecting school supplies for the United Way of Cass Clay. The supplies will go to children whose families will not be able to afford school supplies for the 2013-14 school year. Please only donate new or gently used items. Donation boxes will be set up in the Center for Business and the CMU from April 19 – 26.

Minnesotans asked to “Give to the Max”

Non-profit organizations throughout the state will once again ask Minnesotans to display their record-breaking generosity during the second annual “Give to the Max Day” on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.

According to Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN.org, “This is a day for us to come together as Minnesotans and show our support for nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to improve our communities. Last year, more than 48,000 Minnesotans donated $13.5 million to nearly 4,000 Minnesota nonprofits – whose missions range from feeding the hungry, to protecting the environment, to promoting the arts. Volunteer for the 21st Annual Day of Caring

Oct. 11 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What is United Way Day of Caring?
The Annual Day of Caring connects volunteers with senior citizens in our community who need help with small projects around their home. Volunteer projects will take place from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Free books for children in Cass-Clay counties

WHAT MATTERS is children entering school ready to learn. United Way of Cass-Clay has partnered with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to prepare children in Cass and Clay Counties to be successful in school.

This program will send an age appropriate book every month to registered children under the age of five. Books are free and are sent directly to their home. Parents who live in Cass and Clay Counties are eligible to register their children. The first book will arrive 6-8 weeks after registering, and subsequent books will arrive monthly. Leadership program begins in September for nonprofits
