#MSUM2017 trends on Twitter

Leading up to and during Friday’s Commencement ceremonies, students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends were encouraged to share their Dragon pride, congratulations and excitement on Twitter by using #MSUM2017.

The hashtag was once again a success, trending on Twitter by mid-afternoon and throughout the evening.

#MSUM2017 was used in 1,055 tweets that garnered nearly 760,000 impressions.

Dragons launch innovative social media scholarship program

#BeADragon

Grit, Heart and Humility are Minnesota State University Moorhead’s core values and the university has initiated a competitive scholarship campaign to attract like-minded students. By creating a social media scholarship contest around the hashtag #BeADragon, the university is breaking new ground by capitalizing on MSUM’s quickly growing social media presence to introduce prospective students to the culture of the university.

Students have been quick to participate creating dozens of tweets within the first 24 hours of the program including, “I want to #BeADragon so I can attend a college with small class sizes and make my friends and family proud!” and “I want to #BeADragon to major in my dream career! The topic will be “Eyejot, with a splash of Twitter.” Eyejot is a simple video e-mail message that works well to humanize online courses and takes minutes to set up. We will also set up twitter accounts to prepare for a twitter discussion that will happen the next time we meet. We meet in the Faculty Development Center on Thursday, Oct. 24 (tomorrow) from 8-9 a.m. Bring your laptops!

MSU Moorhead will offer two sessions in March on social networking to generate business. Topics include social marketing applications and etiquette, Facebook, Twitter, marketing strategies and driving traffic to web sites and blogs, among others. “Catch the Social Networking Wave: Tips and Terminology” will be from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4 in the Science Lab 118. This session is for those new to social networking and want to learn how to leverage social networking sites to generate business. Cost for this session is $69. Read more.

“Catch the Social Networking Wave: Tips and Terminology” will be from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4 in the Science Lab 118. This session is for those new to social networking and want to learn how to leverage social networking sites to generate business. Cost for this session is $69.

“Implementing Social Networking: Hands-On and How To” is a two-day workshop that will be Tuesdays, March 16 and 23 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Center for Business 200. This session digs deeper into strategy and is for those ready to implement a social networking strategy. Cost for the two-day workshop is $129.

MSUM e2campus emergency alerts are now available to those individuals on Twitter. People can follow us at MSUMe2campus for tweets. We are still sending information out to cell phones and email accounts, but people can follow us on Twitter as well.
