Poster-Making for Take Back the Night

Tuesday and Wednesday | 3-5 p.m. | Women’s Center

The Women’s Center staff invite people to drop by the Women’s Center (Bridges 154) Tuesday and Wednesday, 9/19-20 from 3-5 p.m. to create signs for our Take Back the Night rally and march on Wednesday night. Take Back the Night supports survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and foregrounds their voices. Students may carry the signs they make or create them for others to display at the event. Take Back the Night march held in Moorhead

MOORHEAD – University students and activists marched through downtown Moorhead on Thursday night as they chanted, “Hey hey, ho ho, sexual violence has got to go!”

The “Take Back the Night” march, organized by Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College, highlighted the prevalence of sexual assault and the stigmas faced by those who survive it.

North Dakota State University held its own “Take Back the Night” event in Fargo.

More than 40 people joined the Moorhead march north along Eighth Avenue and ending at Memorial Park. Police blocked off Main Avenue so the marchers could cross safely.

MSU Moorhead and Concordia College join in Tri-College Take Back the Night event

Thursday, Sept. 24, join fellow students and community members as Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College come together for the Tri-College Take Back the Night event. Take Back the Night is an annual event that aims to bring awareness to and end sexual violence in all forms.

To start the evening, both campuses will hold separate events. MSUM will begin at 5:30 p.m. with live music and food; Mic Jordan will speak at 6:15 p.m.; a march around campus will begin at 7:30 p.m.; MSUM will meet up with Concordia at 8 p.m. on 8th Street and 7th Avenue in Moorhead; and at 8:30 p.m., the two campuses will march to Memorial Park (next to Usher’s House). Take Back The Night Rally – SHATTER THE SILENCE. STOP THE VIOLENCE.

The Women’s Center, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Campus Feminist Organization are sponsoring the annual Take Back The Night Rally on Thursday, September 18, from 5:00p – 9:00p on the Campus Mall by the Library. “The Take Back The Night Foundation serves to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives. We seek to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence.” BBQ starts at 5:00p and there will be music and speakers. The event will end with a march around the campus grounds.

The 2013 Take Back the Night Event will take place Thursday, Sept. 19, on the campus mall. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. with a free barbecue in front of the Science Laboratory. This will be followed at 6:15 p.m. with a program that will include speakers, music, and more. Following the program, there will be a march around campus to show solidarity with victims of sexual and domestic violence. The event will conclude with a candlelight vigil. Take Back the Night event is Sept. 13

A barbeque and music by singer-songwriter Kris Kitko will kick off the 2012 Take Back the Night event Thursday, September 13, on the MSUM campus mall. Events begin at 5:30 p.m. and include a poetry slam, speakers, a march around campus and a candlelight vigil.  The event is free and open to the campus community.

Take Back the Night events seek to increase awareness of violence against women. In the United States, one in five college women have been raped at some point in their lifetimes, according to One in Four, a national non-profit working to end sexual assault and rape on university campuses. Women’s Studies and the Women’s Center invite you to join us for the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center’s “Take Back the Night” Rally and March on Tuesday, September 21. On Monday, September 20, we will be making signs to carry at the march in Bridges 162 from 6-9 p.m. (Refreshments will be served.) On Tuesday, September 21 at Oak Grove Park in Fargo, there will be a BBQ at 5:30 p.m., a program at 7 p.m., and at 7:30 p.m., everyone will march back to their home stations. We will be providing rides to the park from the MSUM Planetarium turn out starting at 5:30 p.m. This is a public event; there is no cost! The Women’s Studies Program and the Women’s Center are holding their annual fall BBQ in conjunction with the “Take Back the Night” march on Tuesday, September 29 from 5-6:25 p.m. The BBQ will start at 5 p.m. in the mall area on the north side of the Center for the Arts building, and the march will start at 6:25 p.m. We will make posters and signs to carry at the rally.
