‘Phantom of the Opera’ screening with live organ accomaniment

Friday, Oct. 27 | 7 p.m. | Glasrud Auditorium

MSUM’s School of Media Arts & Design and the Red River Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society present a screening of the 1925 Classic Silent Horror film, “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney, accompanied by a live organ score. The film will be screened in MSUM’s Glasrud Auditorium, Weld Hall on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Tom Brandau at 701-446-7818 or

Four summer Mondays feature silent films and music

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Summer Cinema Series enters its 41st season with four evenings of silent films preceded by live organ music. The Summer Cinema Series is a collaborative project of MSUM’s School of Media Arts & Design and the Red River Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society.

Closing the series on Monday, July 31, is a selection of silent comedy short films with a nautical theme —  Keaton’s The Boat, Harry Langdon’s Shanghaied Lovers, and Lloyd’s Captain Kidd’s Kids. After this showing, treats will be served in the hallway.

SoMAD hosts valentine screening

The Red River Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society (RRATOS) is partnering with the Minnesota State University Moorhead School of Media Arts and Design to produce “My Funny Valentine”a free, family-friendly screening of three “two-reeler” romantic-comedy short silent films starring the famed comedians Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, and Buster Keaton.  Read the rest of this entry →

Summer Vintage Film Series returns to MSUM campus

The Minnesota State University Moorhead Summer Cinema Series this year features four silent films from the 1920s, and a collection of Buster Keaton short films. The series runs Monday evenings from July 9 through July 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Weld Hall on the MSUM campus.

Founded in the mid-1970s by late MSUM film professors Ted Larson and Rusty Casselton, the series features retrospective showings of some of Hollywood’s greatest stars in popular motion pictures, as well as a few rare, seldom-seen movies.
