MSU Mankato targets possible cuts
MANKATO — The drama begins now. Minnesota State University announced this week that the aviation, computer science and undergraduate music programs — among others — have been slated for elimination. Dozens of other programs, the university announced, will be subject to budget cuts that may include curriculum, full-time faculty or adjunct. The cuts are part of the university’s plan to prepare for what looks to be a horrendous budget situation come 2012. MSU’s share of a $5 billion state budget shortfall will be somewhere in the $6 million to $10 million range. To cut that much they’ll need to get rid of people, more specifically, faculty.
