Unique item added to RED

Posted on July 10, 2017

RED, MSUM’s digital repository, has just added an item so unique that even the Minnesota Historical Society doesn’t have a copy: Minutes of meetings of the Presidents of the Minnesota State Teachers Colleges, 1927-1942.

These were the years of the Great Depression, leading up to the Second World War. State Teachers Colleges in Minnesota were exploring the professionalization of their degrees. The relationship of the several Teachers Colleges to the state board of education was discussed, revised, and discussed again.

These minutes will be of interest to those exploring the history of the education of teachers in rural areas and to students of higher education policy. Find them at

A traveling exhibit of 11 panels on Early Moorhead will be opening at the Hjemkmost Center on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The exhibit script was initiated by students in a History 390: Interpretive History course taught by Jayme Joos (Spring 2015) and then completed through a Legacy (Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund) grant awarded to Rinita Dalan and Jayme Joos (Anthropology and Earth Science) that covered additional research and writing by Jayme Joos and copyright permissions for the images. The panels were printed with funds from the Minnesota Historical Society.  Read the rest of this entry →
