SPJ announces 2009 Mark of Excellence national winners


The Society of Professional Journalists announced the national winners of the 2009 Mark of Excellence Awards, recognizing collegiate work published or broadcasted during 2009. This year, student journalists submitted more than 3,600 entries. MSUM students earned multiple awards, including Todd Kurtz, who was a NATIONAL WINNER in Television News Photography. Campus News was a national finalist in the SPJ awards, meaning MSUM was ranked as one of the top 3 college newscasts in the NATION. Click headline for full details.

NDPC college communications contest winners announced

Winners of the 2010 North Dakota Professional Communicators College Communications Contest were recognized at the NDPC state conference April 24 in Fargo. More than 60 college students and teams from 6 North Dakota and Minnesota schools participated in the annual competition. A total of 50 awards were presented in 34 categories. Actors awarded at national theatre festival

Two MSUM theatre students gained national recognition at The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), held at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in mid-April. Tyler Michaels, senior Theatre Arts major, was awarded the Dell’ Arte International School of Physical Training Program Fellowship and The Mark Twain Scholarship for Comic Performance. Matt Englund, sophomore Theatre Arts major, was awarded The Margolis Method Summer Intensive Fellowship. Click headline for details.

Economics students commit to grad schools, internships

The following 2010 Economics graduates have committed to the following graduate schools: Jena Thompson – Purdue University, full tuition and scholarship; Clay Kramer – University of Illinois, full tuition and scholarship; Mark Frenzel – Claremont Graduate School, scholarship; Alex Kangas – University of Utah; and James Teigland – William Mitchell Law School. Student Isaac Thomas will complete an internship in China with Shineray Motorcycyles, the first international internship completed by an MSUM student.

Film students host juried film exhibition

MSUM Film Studies will host the semi-annual Juried Film Exhibition at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7 in Weld Hall Glasrud Auditorium. The exhibition will showcase the best film and video work produced during the semester, as adjudicated by a panel consisting of alumni, local professionals and MSUM community members. Awards will be presented to students, and light refreshments will be served. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
