MSUM art exhibit opens Dec. 7

An MSUM student art exhibit will be on display Dec. 7-17 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts gallery. The exhibit is in partial fulfillment of students’ bachelor of fine arts degrees. The exhibit will feature graphic design, painting, photography and printmaking. A reception for the artists will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10 in the gallery. Faculty interested in using Second Life® are invited to an open house on Friday, December 11 at 11:00 AM CST at the Second Life® – Teaching Island Large Group Facility http://slurl.com/secondlife/MnSCU%20Teaching%20Island/135/176/26/ Please join us as we tour the teaching, learning and research spaces in Second Life®. We will have the virtual world equivalent of cookies and coffee waiting for you (some free objects) and we look forward to discussing how to help you resource.

MSUM Guitar Ensemble performs Dec. 3

The MSUM Guitar Ensemble performs on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Fox Recital Hall. It’s free and open to the public. The High Plains Reader calls it a ‘Best Bet’: “The MSUM guitar ensemble consists of five or six guitar players, a bass player, and a percussionist. Past performances have been refreshingly original, playing seldom heard works.”

“In Pieces” showing Dec. 2

“In Pieces”, a story highlighting the issue of domestic violence told through live rock music and video, will be showing Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Hansen Theatre. It’s free to students; general admission is $5. The story line follows an abused woman and her young child and also the life of her abuser. Emphasis is placed on the cycle of violence showing the correlation of abuse in a home with child witnesses. There is a strong message of the impact of abuse along with a hopeful message of survival and new beginnings. Click headline for more information.
