“Reclaiming” conference at MSUM Jan. 29

The Women in Action Conference Committee invites everyone to participate in the Women in Action Conference Friday, January 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the university’s CMU ballroom. This year’s theme is “Reclaiming” and will include a series of panels on topics that include Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness, Embracing Diversity, GLBT Awareness, and Leading a Stress-Free Lifestyle. A Woman’s Perspective on Work & Play Opens Monday

The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County at the Hjemkomst Center is
proud to announce the opening of A Woman’s Perspective on Work and Play,
beginning Monday, January 25 through Tuesday, March 30. A Woman’s Perspective (AWP) is an un-juried, multimedia art exhibition,
featuring visual, literary and performing art by emerging and established
regional artists. This year’s theme is Work and Play, including a special
supplemental exhibit on art aprons as a symbol of the intersection of work and

Level II Anti-Racism Training Opportunity at MSUM

The MSUM TOCAR Initiative, (Training Our Campuses Against Racism) is sponsoring a two-and-half-day in-depth Anti-Racism Training to be held on the MSUM campus. This training will engage participants in discussions of: Definitions of racism, particularly understanding institutional and systemic racism, Disadvantage, power, and privilege issues related to racism, Anti-racist/multicultural organizational development, and Strategies to promote organizational development and change. Food Safety & the Social Sciences: A Dean’s Lecture Jan. 21

Psychology Professor Gary Nickell will deliver a Dean’s Lecture on Can the Social Sciences Contribute Solutions to the Challenge of Food Safety? on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. in Science Lab 104. This presentation will discuss recent research conducted with food processing workers, food service employees, and home food preparers on the psychology of food safety. Some of the psychological factors to be discussed will include: attitudes and beliefs, motivation, habits, personality, optimistic bias, and normative messages.
