International jazz, recording artist at MSUM March 4-5

Greg Abate, jazz saxophonist, flutist, and composer, will conduct a masterclass and clinics when he visits MSUM Thursday and Friday, March 4-5. He will present a music business clinic at 3 p.m. Thursday; a jazz and saxophone clinic at 9:30 a.m. Friday; and a convocation and master-class at 3 p.m. Friday, all in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Fox Recital Hall. These events are free and open to the public. At 8 p.m. Friday he will perform with The Simon Rowe Trio at Studio 222 at 222 Broadway, Fargo. Hest talks on storytelling, marriage at dean’s lecture March 4

Dr. Theresa Hest, Communication Studies, will present a Dean’s Lecture from 1:30-2:45 p.m. Thursday, March 4 in MacLean 181. Her topic is “What is the role of storytelling in a marriage?” Based on data collected from 177 married couples, this presentation will explore the forms of marital stories, the functions of these stories, and the key role of storytelling in relational maintenance. The event is free and open to the public.

MSUM holds Scorch party for charity

MSU Moorhead is hosting a birthday party for Dragon mascot Scorch that is a fundraiser for the YWCA of Cass Clay and the Dorothy Day House. The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6 in Nemzek Hall. It features inflatable games, face painting and other entertainment. Donations of food, toiletries, clothing and household items are being accepted.
