The quiet impact of international students

During this recession, revenue losses seem to dominate the headlines. However, there is one thing that continues to positively impact our state’s economy: international students. According to NAFSA: Association of International Educators, around 9,000 – 10,000 international students enroll at Minnesota post secondary institutions each year, making it the 18th most popular destination in the United States for foreign-born students. When Annabeth Mladnick spilled coffee on her artwork, it was a mistake that turned into a masterpiece. Annual Family History Workshop Oct. 2 at MSUM

Decoding the Maze is the theme for the 35th Annual Family History Workshop to be held Saturday, October 2 Minnesota State University Moorhead. The 2010 Family History Workshop features Stephen Morse the creator of the One-Step Website for which he has received both the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award from the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, Award of Merit from the National Genealogical Society, first-ever Excellence Award from the Association of Professional Genealogists, and two awards that he cannot pronounce from Polish genealogical societies. Federal Legislative Update for July 8, 2010

Chris Halling, system director for student financial aid, has prepared an update regarding the changes to federal financial aid programs. One of those changes includes direct lending. All new student loans for loan periods beginning after July 1, 2010 are being made through the Federal Direct Loan Program. Halling reports that the transition seems to have been relatively simple since most of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities institutions have already been making Direct Loans and have offered assistance to those who are new to the program. It remains unclear until the start of fall semester if the U.S. Department of Education will be able to handle the increased volume. Click headline to read more.
