MSUM achieved accreditation of its business programs by AACSB International in 2010 – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This is the most prestigious level of accreditation available to Business schools internationally. As a result of this achievement, the school was able to establish a chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society in 2010.
As a member of the 2013 Caldecott Committee, Carol H. Sibley, Library, received over 500 picture books from publishers during the 2012 publishing season. Through a grant process coordinated by Northern Lights Library Network, school librarians in northwest Minnesota were invited to apply to receive collections of these books.
The Psychology Department gave out four Departmental Awards to undergraduate students at both the junior and senior level to recognize their achievements. This spring, Bria Itzen was given the “Psychology Student Departmental Award” (junior psychology major), while Kelsey Ihringer was given the “Psychology Research Award” (junior psychology major).
Cecilia Mafla-Bustamante, Languages and Cultures, has been invited to join the Grupo América Ecuador, a literary organization in Ecuador. She also recently presented a paper to this organization, based on a publication she has submitted to its journal. The organization is comprised of writers, intellectuals and diplomats in Ecuador.
Three student speakers, Andrea Kochensparger (a senior, Anthropology), Shouvik Bhattacharya (a senior, Physics), and Iwnetim Abate (a sophomore, Physics) discussed how students can motivate and prepare for attending an academic or a professional conference.
