Dragon Face in a New Place: Sue Bertsch
By this time, you have probably noticed Sue Bertsch in a new role in the Registrar’s Office. As an academic planning coordinator, Sue works with junior audits, going through student DARs to make sure juniors are on track to graduate. She also works on the academic schedule, looking at what courses need to be offered when to ensure all students graduate when they intend to.
Q: How is your new position different than your previous one as OAS Senior?
A: I’ll be diving deeper into students’ records and their degree audit report. Before, I handled more basic tasks, like verifying enrollment, helping students register for courses, and helping them acquire reciprocity and credit for prior learning.
Q: What has surprised you in this new role?
A: There are many different rules and guidelines to know with the degree audit – for example, knowing how many writing intensive courses are needed.

Q: What inspires and motivates you?
A: I love helping students. It makes my day. If I can help a student get into a course, drop a course, gain reciprocity, save money, have a better experience; that’s what drives me.
Q: If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: I’ve been doing some international travel. I’ve already visited a few places that I wanted to go to. But I would say Ireland and Scotland are next!
Q: What is the best advice you have ever been given?
A: Samantha Gust, in the Career Studio, said, “When you make a mistake, lean in. Admit to the mistake, and then you can get to the resolution much quicker.” I still think about that every time that I make a mistake. I always think of her saying, “Just lean in.”
Congratulations, Sue!
