Dragons Track & Field Superb at NDSU Spring Invitational

FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead track & field saw a healthy collection of personal bests set at the NDSU Spring Invitational on Friday.

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays

Adla Serrao would set a new personal best in the women’s 100m hurdles for the second straight week. The senior marked a 15.28 finishing time, improving on last week’s mark of 15.74. The men’s 400m would see Manjot Singh and Colin O’Farrell finish eighth and ninth respectively. Singh and O’Farrell each clocked 50.20 times, but Singh finished just milliseconds before O’Farrell. Frosty Wisnewski (50.56) and Rory Richardson (5245) would each set new outdoor bests in the same event.

Jazmin Barry would be MSUM’s top finisher in the women’s 100m dash, clocking a 12.19 time to finish 11th. The time for Barry is tied for the ninth-fastest in program history (Judith Robinson). Brihonne Cargill would clock a fresh collegiate best of 12.51 in the same event.

Louis Sobiech (10.78) and Caden Spence (10.80) would place sixth and seventh respectively on the men’s side. Both times are new outdoors bests and nearly broke into the top 10 in school history. Austin Weite (10.92) would mark a new personal best for the second straight week in the same event.

Shavantae Roberts would earn a fourth-place finish in the women’s 200m dash, marking a 24.77 time.

In the women’s 4x100m relay, the squad of Desiree Loyd, Barry, Cargill and Roberts would earn a runner-up spot with a time of 47.21. The time is the third-fastest in program history. On the men’s side, the team of Wisnewski, Weite, Spence and Sobiech would also finish runner-up with a time of 41.49.

The Dragon women would close the meet with an event win in the 4x400m relay. The team of Barry, Cargill, Roberts and Tylah Pratt would register a 4:21.64 time. MSUM’s men’s team of Singh, Jasiah Hambira, Wisnewski and O’Farrell would place runner-up behind a time of 3:23.47.

Jumps/Vaults

Barry and McKenna Schreiber would be the top Dragon competitors in women’s long jump with each holding a top leap of 18-03.25 (5.57m). The pair finished fifth and sixth respectively while Pratt earned an eighth-place finish with a jump of 18-0.5 (5.50m). Schreiber’s mark is a new personal best and is the sixth-best long jump in MSUM history.

On the men’s side, Hunter Miller earned a 10th-place finish with a jump of 21-02 (6.45m) in his second attempt. The mark is a new personal best for Miller while Colby Larson placed 12th with a leap of 20-07 (6.27m). Kade Larson earned a seventh-place finish in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 41-05.25 (12.63m).

Leya Teicher would continue her strong start to the outdoor season, registering a new personal best clearing of 11-06.25 (3.51m) to finish fifth. The mark is tied for the sixth-best in MSUM history. Loyd would lead MSUM in women’s high jump, placing fourth with a jump of 5-01.75 (1.57m).

Men’s high jump would see Hambira pick up his second consecutive event win. The sophomore cleared 6-09.5 (2.07m), which stands alone as the eighth-best high jump in school history. Hambira’s mark is also an NCAA provisional height. Jaiden Peraza placed third in the same event with a jump of 6-07.5 (2.02m). Tate Rasmussen and Miller tied for eighth, clearing 6-03.5 (1.87m).

Throws

Codi Bunting would reset her personal best in the women’s hammer throw for the second straight week. Bunting tossed a 137-06 (41.93m) while Jack Stewart led the Dragon men with a throw of 127-08 (38.92m). In women’s javelin, both Sam Azure (34.65m) and Serrao (28.97m) would set new personal bests. Isaac Friese saw a strong start to his season on the men’s side, finishing fourth overall behind a top throw of 177-09 (54.19m).

Stewart (37.33m), Landon Nicholas (34.87m) and Ben Nyreen (33.89m) would all set new personal bests in men’s discus. In women’s shot put, Kiley Kranz would collect a ninth-place finish, improving on her season best mark, tossing a 39-01.25 (11.92m).

Distance

Grace Dorsher would register a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase for the second straight week. Dorsher improved by nearly three seconds to finish second overall with a time of 11:31.88. The senior’s time is the fifth-best in MSUM history as Dorsher was the top collegiate finisher in the race. Kaela Traugott (12:21.83) would earn a sixth-place finish in the same race. Lander Lahtinen would see a solid performance in his first time running the same race collegiately, placing third with a time of 9:50.24.

In the women’s 1500m, both Abbie Christen (4:53.63) and Katelyn Kennedy (5:11.87) would each clock new personal bests. Christen earned an eighth-place finish in the race thanks to the time. Chase Hoechst (4:04.39), Seth Meikle (4:08.22) and Zane Guderjahn (4:10.43) would finish sixth, eighth and 10th respectively. Each time becomes a new personal best for the trio while Luke Buentello (4:16.98) and Austin Dibble (4:22.55) also set personal bests.

Madison Kepner would record a new personal best in the women’s 5000m run, clocking a 20:13.62 to finish fifth overall. Salman Mohamed would also finish fifth on the men’s side, marking a personal best time of 15:55.71.

Up Next

MSUM is set for a busy slate next week as a small group of Dragons will travel to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Pacific Coast Invitational and the Beach Invitational. Dragons will also compete at the Al Cassell Classic in Jamestown, N.D. next Saturday.
