SLHS Celebrates Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and the department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences (SLHS) is increasing awareness about this public health epidemic. First year graduate students are creatively educating students within Murray Hall as well as hosting a coloring contest within the MSUM Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Brain injury includes any injury to the brain after birth, and includes traumatic injuries, strokes, tumors, infections, and anoxia. Brain injury occurs across the lifespan and may result in cognitive, physical and behavior changes. Speech-Language Pathologists are professionals who provide assessment, treatment, and education to, and advocacy for, survivors of brain injury with communication, swallowing and cognitive impairments.
