MSUM Student, Alumni, Staff and Faculty support Dakota Nights at Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Students, alumni, staff and faculty from MSUM were critical to the success of the Dakota Nights Astronomy Festival at Theodore Roosevelt National Park the weekend of Sep 15-17. Over 300 visitors to the park looked through telescopes, got a tour of the night time sky or safely observed the Sun. Over half the volunteers were from MSUM. The largest contingent was 8 students in the MSUM Astronomy Club, many of whom learned about the sky at the MSUM Planetarium. In addition, two alumni, one of which now works as a Dragon in Instructional Technology, and a faculty member from the Department of Physics and Astronomy volunteered.
Highlights of the event included seeing both the International Space Station and a Starlink satellite pass overhead while listening to wild horses graze around us.
The trip was made possible by generous support from Student Senate via SAFAC and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
