Vacation Cap Extension
In light of the challenges caused by COVID-19, MMB has outlined a revision to extend the annual requirement for employees to reduce vacation hour balances below the maximum identified in the applicable contract/plan. Employees may accumulate unused vacation hours to any amount, provided that once during each fiscal year each employee’s balance is reduced to 275 hours or less. Originally, this must be accomplished by June 30, 2020, but the deadline has now been extended to December 31, 2020, for employees who submit the Vacation Cap Waiver form.
As a result, classified employees (those in AFSCME, MAPE, MMA, Managerial, and the Commissioners plan)* have the opportunity to submit the Vacation Cap Waiver form to request the extension to December 31, 2020. The form must include the following:
- a plan outlining how the vacation hours will be reduced below 275 by December 31, 2020
- supervisor approval
*MSUAASF and Administrator plan employees have specific provisions that address requests for vacation cap extension, please see applicable contract/plan for details.
Completed forms should be submitted to Human Resources via hr@mnstate.edu by June 26, 2020. Employees who do not submit a vacation cap waiver form and whose vacation balance has not been below 275 hours at least once this fiscal year, will automatically have their vacation balances reduced to 275 hours as of June 30, 2020, as the hours do not carry forward and are lost.
