Teaching online? New media codes you need to know
Information for Department Chairs, Program Coordinators, and Faculty Teaching Online: New Media Codes
MnSCU has made several changes to the media codes that are of particular interest to those teaching online. You may want to begin using these media codes for Fall 2010 courses. They clarify some things for students as the register for classes. Instead of coding all online courses as media code 03, you may want to look at the new media codes 12 and 13, as described below:
Existing Media code 03: “Predominantly online”
NEW Media code 12: “Completely online” — this means no time or location requirements. For example, there can be no required proctored exams or required online meetings.
NEW Media code 13: “Completely online with synchronous components”— this means the course has time requirements but no location requirements. For example, there CAN be required online meetings or online chat sessions, but there CANNOT be proctored exams or other required activities where a student must be at a particular location to complete a requirement for the class.
