Musical version of Studs Terkel best-seller takes MSUM stage on April 13
Wednesday, April 13 through Saturday, April 16 | 7:30 p.m. | Gaede Stage
Considering the populist positions taken by outsider political candidates these days, the last production of MSUM’s University Theatre seems especially well-timed. Working, based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, paints a striking portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted. The play opens Wednesday, April 13, and runs through Saturday. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. on the Gaede Stage in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts on the MSUM campus.
In the musical, twenty-six workers from several walks of life sing and talk about their jobs, their daily work routines, hopes and aspirations. This production includes new characters, monologues, and songs addressing aspects of contemporary work life, such as outsourcing, technology, fast-food, caregiving and fundraising, but preserves earlier material from the original show that is still relevant to today’s world.
