Faculty Development Events
GIS Day is today from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Library Porch. Check out the computer kiosk to see how this spatial software can be used across many disciplines. Attend a panel of former students and community members at 12:00 pm in LI 103 to find out the importance of exposing our students to GIS in a variety of majors. This day is sponsored by the Center for Geospatial Studies and the Department of Anthropology and Earth Science, with ideas and contributions from a Faculty Development Associate team consisting of Rinita Dalan, T.J. Hansen, and Margaret Sankey.
There are several events of particular interest to faculty during International Education Week:
1) Attend a panel of international students on Thursday, November 20th from 12:00 – 1:30 pm in CMU 101 for questions and discussion about their experiences transitioning to the F-M area and integrating into our campus community.
2) Join us for a faculty-led session on leading study abroad experiences on Thursday, November 20th at Noon in the Faculty Development Center (LI 124).
3) Attend a live webinar “Curricular Designs for Global Learning” from 2 – 3:30 pm in the Faculty Development Center (LI 125) on Thursday, November 20. Here is a description of the webinar: How are colleges and universities re-imagining undergraduate curricula and majors to help students thrive in a globally interconnected world? Experts will share their own experiences of redesigning general education programs that incorporate global learning. Participants will then join the conversation to discuss tools that faculty can use to infuse courses with global learning, assessment of student learning initiatives that provide meaningful information on global learning outcomes, and local experiential learning models that help students address global issues in their community.
