Dr. Elizabeth Kirchoff, English, and 15 of MSUM’s Communication Arts/Literature Education pre-service teachers, student teachers, and first-year teachers attended the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English Workshop in Minneapolis on Monday, October 27. The workshop, “It’s Rigor, Not Rigor Mortis,” focused on the implementation of teaching strategies designed to improve reading comprehension for all middle school and high school students—and especially for struggling readers. Renowned theorists Kylene Beers and Bob Probst presented the material to hundreds in attendance, but the group from MSUM was the largest group present.
