Don’t miss Dante scholar John Kerr and pianist Jihye Chang
Pianist Jihye Chang returns to Fargo-Moorhead to perform Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in Fox Recital Hall. Works include Chorale Fantasy, IV. Sin: Romans 3:10-18, V. Chorale: “Lord, have mercy” by Shinuh Lee; Sonata No. 9 “Black Mass” by Alexander Scriabin; No. 15 Le baiser de l’Enfant-Jésus (“The kiss of the Infant Jesus”) from Vingt regards sur l’enfant-Jésus, by Olivier Messiaen; and Après une Lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata, by Franz Liszt. Chang and her husband, violinist Ben Sung, lived in Fargo-Moorhead for several years before moving to Tallahassee, Fla. Preceding Chang’s lecture-recital is a 5 p.m. talk by Dante scholar John Kerr, chair of the Department of English at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and a 6 p.m. reception and exhibition of artwork depicting hell created by MSUM art students.
The March 6 events are free and open to the public, and are part of a week-long residency with the James Sewell Ballet Company. That residency culminates in the world premiere of James Sewell’s Inferno, which takes place on the Hansen Theatre stage Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. The ballet’s production is rated R for adult content.
