Moorhead Quarterback Jack Strand Supports Physics Department Through National Honor

Minnesota State Moorhead senior quarterback Jack Strand recently turned a national honor into a meaningful investment in the university.

Strand was selected as one of 16 national finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, widely recognized as the highest academic and athletic award in college football across all divisions. As part of that recognition, finalists receive a postgraduate scholarship and their institution is awarded five thousand dollars to support an academic program of the student’s choice.

An engineering physics major, Strand chose to direct the award to the Physics & Astronomy Department. He personally delivered the news to Dr. Shastri, a faculty member he has taken several courses with, presenting the gift during a visit to the professor’s office. The moment was met with excitement and appreciation, marking a meaningful exchange between student and mentor.

Strand’s decision reflects the values that define Dragons. He pursued excellence in the classroom and on the field, and he chose to give back to the academic home that supported his curiosity, discipline, and growth.

This gift will directly support the Physics Department and stands as a reminder of the lasting impact students can have when they lead with gratitude and purpose. It was a proud moment for Dragon athletics, the College of Science, Health and the Environment, and the entire Moorhead community.
