Jacob Tesch, Dragon Alum, and Dr. Sumali Pandey Publish New Book Chapter

With Dragon pride, we highlight a new scholarly contribution from Dr. Sumali Pandey, Associate Professor in Biosciences department and Minnesota State Moorhead alum Jacob Tesch, class of 2019, who have co-authored a book chapter in the newly released volume Inflammation, published by Springer Nature Publishers.

Their chapter, “Inflammatory Mediators in the Airway: A Structural Cell’s Perspective,” offers an in-depth look at lung structural cells, the inflammatory mediators they secrete, and how these mechanisms could guide future approaches to asthma management.

Jacob Tesch first joined Dr. Pandey’s research lab as an undergraduate, where he gained hands-on experience in mouse model of pulmonary diseases. His work was supported through Judith Strong funds available through CSHE dean’s office and CDC-HICAHS funding through Colorado State University. These skills played a central role in shaping his academic trajectory and directly contributed to his acceptance into an asthma research lab, as a doctoral student at North Dakota State University. This chapter represents a significant milestone in their academic journey, one that began as a small spark of curiosity in Dr. Pandey’s lab at Moorhead.

Dr. Pandey notes: ‘Watching students grow from learning foundational skills in the lab to becoming published scholars is one of the most rewarding parts of my work at Minnesota State Moorhead. The work reflects the collaborative spirit of Moorhead’s research culture and the university’s dedication to fostering high-impact learning experiences.’

The edited volume is intended for scholars and practitioners working for asthma management, and is now available here: https://link.springer.com/rwe/10.1007/978-3-031-55254-0_10-1
