Upcoming Change: New Software for Security Patch Management
We are implementing a new software package to assist with applying security patches on computers for all faculty and staff. This new system (Action1) will function similarly to our current process:
- Patch Wednesday: You will continue to receive patches on Wednesdays. Being on the network Tuesday overnight will aid the process but is not required.
- Additional Popups: You may see some additional popups (ex. Adobe or Office 365) that the application requires to be closed to apply the update.
- Reboot Requirement: If your computer requires a reboot, you will see a message with a 4 hour snooze option stating:
“To complete the installation of the patch, it is now necessary to reboot your computer. If you require any additional information, please contact MSUM Helpdesk at support@mnstate.edu”
The rollout of this new package begins immediately, with the first scheduled patch date on Wednesday, November 26th.
If you have any questions or need additional information, we have created a simple overview explaining the new notifications and restart options. You can find it on the IT Support Portal under “University Owned Computer Update” or please contact the MSUM IT Helpdesk.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our systems secure.
