Honoring a Legacy: The Family of Floyd W. Brown Donates a Generous Gift

The family of Floyd W. Brown — Navy veteran, former Director of Admissions at Minnesota State Moorhead, and proud Dragon has made a generous gift. The fund, originally established in 2013 by his children, honors both Brown’s distinguished military service and his three-decade career in education, helping future students benefit from his legacy of leadership and commitment.

Brown’s career spanned from serving aboard the USS Prairie (AD-15) in the U.S. Navy to rising to Master Chief Petty Officer, followed by decades in higher education where he helped grow MSUM’s enrollment from 2,000 to more than 8,000 students. Now, thanks to this gift, his influence will continue — supporting scholarships that connect service and education, ensuring that his legacy continues to transform student lives for generations to come.

This contribution will also serve as a matching gift for Giving Day, encouraging others to honor Floyd’s legacy by supporting students through scholarships.
