SPA student and faculty impact this week

During this “quiet” February week, students and faculty from the School of Performing Arts were making an impact both on our campus and throughout our community:

  • On Saturday, the MSUM Pep Band performed for hundreds of basketball fans while cheering our Dragons to victory in Nemzek for both men’s and women’s basketball games.
  • On Sunday, February 9, Music Ed major Sebrina McGovern played two violin solos for a church service at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo. She played beautifully and received many compliments from members of the congregation.
  • On Sunday, February 9, over 25 students from the Concert Choir performed at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Fargo under the direction of Dr. Michael Johnson. Several members of the congregation gushed over their performance and expressed how much they would love to hear the choir again soon.
  • SPA music faculty and student members of the MSUM Choir and Wind Ensemble performed for the Edvard Grieg Society of the Dakotas concert on Tuesday, February 11 at Peace Lutheran Church in a concert that was highly praised by audience members from across the region.
  • This weekend, over 20 students and several faculty from the School of Performing Arts are attending the Minnesota Music Educators’ Association Midwinter Convention in Minneapolis.  Many of them will perform with the MMEA University Honor Band, while others will attend two full days of clinics and concerts dedicated to developing our future music educators while networking with working professionals from across the state.

These kinds of events, student achievements, and more are constantly being shared on social media.  If you’re not following #DragonMusic on X, msumdragonbands, msumchoirs, andmsumorchestra on Insta, or MSUM School of Performing Arts on Facebook, you’re missing out!  See the excitement and discover what a “typical” week in the School of Performing Arts means for our outstanding students!
