From soldiers to students: How MSUM supports those in military service

MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live), Nov. 11 – It’s Veterans Day! As many across the country honor our nations’ heroes, a local college is reminding you about the resources they offer for current service members, veterans, and military families.
Minnesota State University-Moorhead helps many students transition with ease by using the Veterans Success Center.
Joaquin Watson, President of the Dragon Student Veterans Club, is a junior at MSUM and joined the U.S. Army in 2010. He has two grandpas who are war veterans, which inspired him to serve his country. “My grandpa was actually a Navajo code-talker for the Marines, and was one of the first 28 code-talkers to get sent out,” he said.
Sent out, just like his grandpas, Watson was deployed to Iraq for four months and served until 2014.
Years later, he’s making the transition from soldier to student.
