Join the Library’s Banned Books Reading Group for “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”
In a time of deep political divides, library staff across the country are facing an overwhelming number of book ban attempts. In 2023 alone, 4,240 unique book titles were targeted, many of them representing LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC voices and experiences. The freedom to explore new ideas and different perspectives is under threat, and book bans don’t just restrict access to stories—they undermine our rights.
Therefore, in recognition of LGBTQIA+ History Month and to bring awareness around censorship, the library is hosting a Banned Books Reading Group discussion on Monday, October 21, from 12-1 PM in the Library Porch (LI 100).
We invite you to celebrate your freedom to read by joining our Banned Books Reading Group with fellow MSUM faculty, staff, and students. Bring your lunch and we’ll discuss The Perks of Being A Wallflower. This discussion will be led by Erienne Fawcett, Coordinator of Gender and Sexuality.
For instructions on how to obtain a print or digital copy of the book, please see our DragonCentral event.
