Spend Your Medical/Dental Expense Account Funds Before Dec. 31; Limited Carryover
| Dec. 31, 2023 is the deadline for spending funds in your Medical/Dental Expense Account (MDEA). You have until Feb. 29, 2024 to submit your expenses to get reimbursed.
Receipts dated after Dec. 31, 2023 can’t be reimbursed from your 2023 account. |
Possible carryover from 2023 to 2024
The MDEA is a “use-it-or-lose it” account for the most part. Carryover of $610 may be allowed if you meet the requirements below. Otherwise, you forfeit money not spent on eligible expenses by Dec. 31, 2023.
Carryover requirements
You may be able to carryover up to $610 from your 2023 to 2024 MDEA if you both:

Paid your 2023 MDEA in full. (The total amount you elected was contributed.)
Signed up for a 2024 MDEA during open enrollment with a contribution of at least $100. (If you didn’t sign up during open enrollment, you need a qualifying life event to sign up now.)
If you qualify, carryover happens automatically.
