MSUM Student Tanner Weyer presents research on new variable stars at Annual Meeting of the AAVSO

Tanner Weyer, a student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, gave a talk at the 112th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Variable Star Observers, held Nov 2-4 in Boston, MA.

His presentation “An Unfortunately Constant Star Field,” was about a search for variable stars in a patch of the sky in which there are no known variable stars. The initial search, based on data taken in late May and early June 2023, was inconclusive, in part because of heavy smoke during that time. New observations are plan in early 2024 to conclusively determine whether anyt of the stars in that part of the sky change with time.
