MSUM Oceanarium receives grant for World Oceans Day

MSU Moorhead celebrated the expansion of its Oceanarium on World Oceans Day, June 8 and received good news in the form of a $1,000 grant from the Awesome Foundation Cass Clay. The gift from Awesome Foundation will offset the cost of salt used in its exhibits.

The Awesome Foundation Cass Clay gives the MSUM Oceanarium a $1,000 grant.

The Oceanarium is an interactive, investigative marine laboratory that features more than 50 species of sea life. Visitors can handle horseshoe crabs, get up close and personal with stingrays and learn about the importance of oceans and their creatures.

The Oceanarium is located in the lower level of Langseth Hall, 600 11th St. S., Moorhead. It hosts many school groups, including this May visit from hundreds of Horizon Middle School students.

An open house with tours ran throughout World Oceans Day, with the event culminating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. An estimated 700 visitors experienced the Oceanarium during the open house.

Also, to commemorate World Oceans Day, the Red River Zoo donated half of its daily gate admission to the Oceanarium on June 8. Donations to support the MSUM Oceanarium can be made online at https://donate.mnstate.edu/oceanarium.
