Student Senate Election for 2023-2024 Executive Team and Senators, plus a Student Athletic Fee Referendum

Student Senate is hosting its annual election of executive members and senators for the 2023-2024 academic year. Additionally, this year the ballot includes a student referendum on the Athletic Fee. Voting is open now and closes at 11:59pm on Wednesday, April 12. Vote online via https://my.mnstate.edu/Elections/ and sign in with your StarID and password. You can vote from anywhere you have internet access.

What’s on the Ballot?  

All students will vote on the following:

  • President – Nora Simondet or Write In
  • Vice President – Will Rops or Write In
  • Secretary – Myra Kotschevor or Write In
  • Treasurer – Claire Stoltenow or Write In
  • University Senators – Vote for Up to 10
  • Student Athletic Fee Referendum
    • Summary: MSUM Dragon Athletics supports 16 Athletic Teams plus the Dance Team, a total of 347 student athletes. The fee revenue is used to support athletic team equipment, supplies, travel, lodging, and meals. As a benefit of paying the Student Athletic Fee, all currently enrolled MSUM students are able to attend home athletic events at no additional cost as agreed to in the MinnState procedure 5.11 Part 4 Subpart D. The Student Athletic Fee is charged to all students on up to 12 credits per semester. This referendum is to increase the Student Athletic fee to $5.15 per credit, a 12.4% ($0.57) increase for an overall increase for a student taking 12 credits of $6.84 per semester. This increase has been supported by the Student Fee Review Committee (made up of 9 student representatives) and by MSUM Student Senate.
    • Referendum: Approve the Student Senate-supported 12.4% increase to the Student Athletic Fee to $5.15 per credit (an increase of $0.57 per credit) for the Academic Year 2023-2024 (Fiscal Year 2024).
    • You’ll have the option to vote yes or no

Students will also be able to vote for Senators to represent the College that includes their major. Grad students will be able to vote for a Graduate Student Senator. Additionally, International students have the opportunity to vote for an International Student Senator.
