Dr. Kristen Carlson co-publishes a chapter on innovative strategies for language acquisition methods courses
Dr. Kristen Carlson, assistant professor of Leadership and Learning, co-authors a book chapter in Second Language Teacher Professional Development: Technological Innovations for Post-Emergency Teacher Education. With the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, teacher education courses were forced to move online creating challenges to teacher education programs. Due to the challenges brought about by the pandemic, all faculty, those with and without online teaching experience, were required to teach online. Through a co-teaching experience between an online pedagogy instructor and a language acquisition instructor we were able to adopt a methods course from hands-on in a classroom to hands-on virtually. Throughout this chapter, we share experiences with online teaching our language acquisition methods course and how active learning activities were modified to provide preservice teachers with the skills necessary to support K-12 English language learners in an online learning environment.
