MDEA & DCEA Carryover Changes for 2023

Use your Medical/Dental Expense Account this year: limited carryover into 2023

The funds in your Medical/Dental Expense Account (MDEA) will no longer have an unlimited carryover into 2023. Use your funds this year.

The temporary carryover rules due to the pandemic end this year. The maximum amount that can be carried into 2023 is $570.

How do I avoid forfeiting funds?

  • Use your pretax (MDEA) funds for eligible medical and dental expenses by December 31, 2022.
  • Submit your expenses for reimbursement by the February 28, 2023 deadline.

Do all accounts (MDEA) qualify for the $570 carryover into 2023?

  • Your 2022 MDEA must be fully funded (meaning the total amount you elected was contributed).
  • You must enroll in a 2023 MDEA with an election of at least $100.
