MDEA Carryover Changes for 2023
The temporary carryover rules due to the pandemic end this year. There will no longer be an unlimited carryover for the MDEA going into the 2023 plan year. The maximum amount of $570 may be carried into 2023.
Expenses incurred in 2022 must be submitted by the 2022 filing deadline of February 28. 2023. Unreimbursed funds remaining in the MDEA greater than $570 will be forfeited after this date.
Requirements to qualify for the MDEA carryover:
- Your 2022 MDEA must be fully funded (meaning the full amount of your election has been contributed).
- Beginning with the 2023 plan year, a new MDEA election of at least $100 must be made to qualify for the carryover.
