April 12 Presentations on Closing the Equity Gap in Higher Education
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Faculty Development Center are offering viewings and discussions of two of the presentations from the 46th Annual Michael T. Nagin Pan African Conference: “Closing the Equity Gap in Higher Education.”
Come for one or both presentations, and eat some pizza while you learn and engage.
When: Tuesday, April 12
Where: LI 124 in the Faculty Development Center
10 am – “Centering BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color) Voices in Teaching” featuring a panel of faculty and MinnState support personnel, this one hour presentation with a 30 minute discussion following has an aim of giving faculty a better understanding of how to diversify their pedagogy using student-centered practices.
12 noon – “Throwing Fish Into a Field of Grass and Telling Them to Swim: The Quest for a Minority to Graduate.” This 35 minute presentation is from the perspective of a recent system college graduate, telling his stories of overcoming structural barriers based upon race, gender, and sexual orientation. A discussion will follow regarding how our campus can assist, and not create obstacles to minority college education.
