MSUM Honors National Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year MSUM honors and celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed from September 15 -October 15.

“Having an intentional time on campus to reflect and acknowledge the histories, cultures and contributions of those from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America allows for us to create greater awareness, develop empathy and gain deeper understanding of Latinx identities and experiences.” -Jered Pigeon.

This year MSUM’s featured speaker will be, Javier Ávila, a world renowned poet and novelist as he presents his award winning one-man show The Trouble with My Name, which examines the issues of language, race, and social justice in an eye-opening performance.

This virtual event will take place September 30th at 3PM. We are proud to have a joint collaboration with Minnesota State Community and Technical College, US Bank and the MSUM Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Registration is free and this event is open to all, please sign up either in Dragon Central or here on this Microsoft Form.
