Listening and Sharing Sessions

Events happening in the world affect us all, and we recognize that it can be helpful to have a safe space to be together, to listen, share, and process the collective trauma. With the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, an increase in Asian American/Pacific Islander hate crimes, as well as other recent acts of violence, and the police shooting of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, MN. We will create a safe space to process the events, emotions, and effects on people and communities.

MSUM Counseling Services and Student Life will offer a safe listening and sharing space that is open to all students. Being together and being in community are important as we process our collective trauma. There is no pressure to speak up or share. During the one-hour timeframe, Shanti Behrens from Counseling Services and Annie Wood from Student Life will hold space for folks to gather either in-person or online via Zoom. There will be no set agenda and folks are welcome to come as they are. We will also have coloring pages and other options if you are interested in simply being together.

Gatherings will take place on Tuesdays from 3 – 4 p.m. through May 11.
