Add a personal video to your directory profile

As a part of our goal of being an accessible and welcoming campus community, we invite employees to add a self-recorded video to their directory listing. If you choose to add a video, it will introduce prospective students to who you are, what you do, and give them a sense of MSUM’s culture.

Here’s how it will work:

Mediaspace Video ID

  1. Go to mediaspace.minnstate.edu
  2. Go to “Guest” and log in with your StarID.
  3. Click “+Add New” to add your media upload.
  4. Name your video, add a description (1-2 sentences of what your video is about; EX: Meet Professor Joe and learn about his teaching and research interests.), add tags (name, major, department, etc.)
  5. Click “Save.”
  6. Click “Go to Media” and the video will take a minute to upload.
  7. In the URL at the top your video will have its own unique ID number at the end of the URL. Copy that ID number and log into your directory profile and paste that ID number into your video.

User-Generated Video Tips

  • Use your phone to record a horizontal video message.
  • If possible, use the main rear-facing camera, NOT the front-facing “selfie” camera. Using the rear camera will be easier if someone else can film you.
  • Place your phone on a stable platform to limit camera shake.
  • Make sure a light source is in front of you. For example, don’t stand with your back to an open window. Use natural lighting and natural backgrounds, if possible. Windows make a good light source, but not direct sunlight.
  • Film in a quiet, low-traffic environment with the phone two to three feet away maximum.
  • Frame yourself properly – try to have the top of your head toward the top of the video frame.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi and turn on Airplane mode to avoid interruptions while filming.
  • Avoid using the zoom function on your phone as it may make your video look grainy.
  • Avoid filming against solid-colored walls.
  • Take your time: roll the camera on the desired framing for at least one second before any dialogue begins and keep rolling for at least another second after the dialogue ends.
