Julia brings real-life ideas and knowledge into the classroom for those students to one day translate into their own classrooms.

Start Date: August 18, 2020

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: The diversity and the initiative to welcome democratic and equitable education were on the forefront of what I was looking for, and on the forefront of what MSUM was looking for in a new candidate. It was a great fit.

Q: What was it like when you first came to campus.
A: Everyone was super welcoming and super friendly. Immediately it felt not only like home, but it also felt like a really positive place to be, like we are going to make the next great change somewhere like right here.

Q: How do you prefer to start your workday?
A: The Starbucks drive-through! I sit down with my iPad and Starbucks in the morning to dig through email questions.

Q: What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
A: I think everybody knows this about me, I am the biggest college football fan in the entire world! I think the culture of college sports is really fascinating, it’s what promoted a lot of my research. My secret ambition is to be an offensive lineman.

Q: What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
A: I went away to college… I did not fit my first year, I really struggled. I can remember, down to the shoes I was wearing and where I was sitting on the sidewalk, when I called my mom to tell her I was coming home. I can remember her voice saying, ‘You need to finish what you started,’ and it’s the best advice I ever got.

Welcome to MSUM, Julia. We’re glad you joined the #DragonFamily!
