Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Dawnita Gallo

Meet MSUM’s new Assistant Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning, Dawnita Gallo. She is an advocate for children and works to inspire others to be as well. In her past experiences, Dawnita has used the practices that she teaches and hopes to share that with her students.

Start Date: August 18, 2020

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I like the smaller size, and I love the student focus. Building that relationship with students to, in my case, help them become the best teacher they can be for their career was really intriguing for me.

Q: What is one thing that surprised you about MSUM?
A: Just how focused this campus is on students; and it’s not just something they talk about, but you see it and you hear it in every meeting. I was also very pleasantly surprised at the number of female administrators.

Q: What’s something—big or small—that you’re really good at?
A: Advocating for children and motivating others to advocate as well, whether that’s through teaching or just sharing my message with people who aren’t in a classroom; that’s definitely where my passion is.

Q: If you could only use three apps on your phone, what would they be?
A: My calendar, for certain, my email, and, I can’t think of the name, but the game that I play.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: Finland. I’ve been there once, but I would like to go back. It’s where I have some family heritage at, and it’s a beautiful country.

Welcome to MSUM, Dawnita. We’re glad you joined the #DragonFamily!
