University Theatre continues season with timely play

Thursday, Oct. 15 | 7:30 p.m.

The School of Performing Arts at MSUM presents a streamed script reading of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m.

The play, conceived by Brian Schnipper and collaboratively written by Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Moisés Kaufman, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, José Rivera, Paul Rudnick and Doug Wright, provides a warm, witty and often hilarious look at the moments before, during, and after “I do.”

Written before the Marriage Equality Act, Standing on Ceremony tackles issues of equality, the universal challenges of relationships, and the power of love. The work is especially timely in light of a recent (Oct. 5, 2020) United States Supreme Court ruling in which the court declined to hear a case brought by a former Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue a marriage license for gay couples.

Purchase tickets at mnstate.edu/tickets. A link will be sent out 30 minutes prior to the performance to those who purchase tickets online. This event is streamed only. There will be no live audience.
